So, there are HEAPS of Geeky Geeky stuff that I’m getting way excited about!
The main one being that Back to the Future the game is coming out with it’s Third Installment this week! Ohboy ohboy ohboy! The cool thing about it is they have recruited Claudia Wells, the original Jennifer from the first movie…I’m still a sucker for Elizabeth Shue’s Jennifer, maybe because I remember her in all those great 80s movies (Though I have yet to see ‘Adventures in Babysitting’ which kind of looks like ‘Don’t tell Mum the Babysitters dead’ crossed with ‘Licensed to drive’) like ‘Some kind of wonderful’ and ‘The Karate Kid’.
Anyway, at least they got a ‘genuine’ Jennifer for the Video Game!
Compare the Jennifers!
Below is a Youtube clip on how they got Claudia Wells involved. It’s a tad cheesy, but hey, BTTF is a pretty big cheese fest in itself (and that’s what makes it so awesome!!) I love it how they refer to ‘alternate’ Jennifer as Joan Jett like as Joan Jett is one of my fav all time female rockers! **Please be warned – if you have yet to play the game, seeing as this is a kind of ‘sneak peek’ of Episode Three there will be a few spoilers – so advance with much caution!**
Next, there are quite a few Hernandez comics coming out in the next few months! Especially the one in which he did with one of my other favourites – Peter Bagge. Though I have never seen any of the stuff from YEAH! it sounds right up my alley – kind of like the first ‘Love and Rockets’ book on the Jaime side of things. This is what Amazon has to say about it -
“Krazy (vocals and guitars), Honey (drums) and WooWoo (keyboards) are the members of the pop band Yeah! They’ve achieved intergalactic superstardom on every planet but their own (Earth), where they live in anonymity and suffer indignities in their home of suburban New Jersey. The girls struggle with bad gigs (struggling to win $200 amateur-night contests despite playing to packed crowds of adoring fans on Uranus), aliens who have crushes on them, and rival boy band The Snobs.”
And then there’s this great quote by Jane Wiedlin who used to be in The Go-Go’s one of my favourite all girl bands (man, is there a pattern with female singers going on in this post?!)
Reading YEAH! is a bit like reading my life story, as told in an alternate universe. The story is about a kick-ass all-girl band that are truly like a family. They have gigs, adventures, boyfriends and pets, and a manager that is flawed but lovable. Not so dissimilar to the Go-Go’s! Of course, YEAH! get to be HUGE rock stars on every other planet but Earth, which is something I dearly would have loved in my career!” — Jane Wiedlin
Am I excited about YEAH! Hell yeah I am!!! Oh, and I just read, it also includes a story inked by Jamie – go Los Bros!
Love from the shadows
In April there’s a new Love and Rockets Gilbert book out which concerns one of my fav characters, Fritz which I look forward to chowing down into, after I finish all my other Love and Rocket books (Luba hardcover, the new Love and Rocket collections, and High Soft Lisp…all which look A-MAZ-ING!) You can watch a review here at HyperGeek, which includes a video preview by Fantagraphics, AND you can download a 12 page preview! Hell yeah!
And last, but not least, there’s a new one by Peter Bagge comin’ out that looks pretty damn awesome. I’m not too familiar with Bagge (as I’ve said, I’ve only been a Graphic Novel geek since December last year, so I have a lot of catching up to do!) – I mean, I own his famous ‘Buddy
does Seattle’ collection, which I needed to get as it brings together two of my favourite things – comics and Seattle (one of my fav cities!) But this wordpress article really opened my eyes to the little darlin’ that is Bat Boy. Bat Boy is a comic that Bagge did a few years back for ‘Weekly World News’ and it seems like it’s a comic about a crazy bat who just loves to get himself into all sorts of strife! Here’s a panel that I found on the net that kind of sums up the cartoon – wacky, left of centre, satiric - let me know what you think!
So there you have it! Now all I need is for me husband to let me have the cash to buy some more comics….hmm…don’t like my chances - but keep your fingers crossed for me, will ya’?!
