The other day I was hanging out in Polyester, and saw this here book lying on their main table. It was called “Henry and Glenn forever”
I’m not that much in the know with Danzig, so it took a little Google to find out that the Glenn in the title was actually Glenn Danzig, a guy that I have heard from time to time blare out of my husband’s car speakers. I of course like Danzig as well, but not as much as Rollins, who I have a total crush on.
Not only because Rollins is attractive (because, hell, he is) and not because he’s so rock n’ roll, but also because he’s straight edge (which I am too pretty much) does piss funny stand-up, and is a very good writer. Oh, and he also has amazing taste in music, as I found out when I found a second hand copy of his book “Fanatic!” which has the list of songs that he plays on his radio show, and a little bit about what he thinks about each song.
Back to the book – it’s done by a group of artists called, “Igloo Tornado” which consists of artists Scot Nobles, Gin Stevens, Dino Fucker and Tom Neely. It tells the fictional story of Henry and Glenn as roommates and lovers (and they live next door to Hall and Oates!) I can see why they paired these two together – they were both lead singers for two of the biggest 80s punk bands, and then formed successful solo careers. They are both into bodybuilding and being tough ass Punk Rock dudes…that’s why it’s easy to take the piss and turn them into a gay couple. On Neely’s blog, “I will destroy you” he talks about how popular the little comic strip has been, and how in-demand new “Henry and Glenn” stuff is. In the interviews I’ve read through links on his blog, it seems the boys came up with the idea after one beer too many, and it’s become so popular, like I said, that they have had an art exhibition in which artists other than Igloo Tornado have added their Henry and Glenn Rock Bromance art to the mix.
These two below were done by Tom Neely himself for the show -
Man, these next two are TOO much! I cracked a smile when I saw them…
Below are a few from the book itself…
And last but not least, here is one of the latest Henry and Glenn works by Tom Neely…this is ‘supposedly’ what happened when Danzig found out about the book…I’m pretty sure there’s a big emphasis on the ‘supposedly’ part.
Apparently, Igloo Tornado bumped into Rollins at a Comic Con, and got him to sign the comic. He did so reluctantly and said to the boys, “Has Glenn seen this? He would NOT be amused!” hehe funny!
