My first music post!
Well, I’ve been seeing people post these “30 day music challenge” thingies on Facebook lately, and I thought it would be a good idea for me to use it in order to display my musical taste in this here blog. I may not post every day, depends on how much work I have on.
The first song is ‘Your favourite song’ – wow. Original!
THIS is my favourite song…at the moment…well, for the past six months.
To tell you the truth, I don’t have a favourite song, I have about twenty songs that I just adore, but I don’t play a song overandoverandover again, I prefer to play about fifty overandoverandover again, one after the other, because I get sick of hearing the same song all the time.
So, why have I chosen this song?
Well, firstly, the ELO songs that I love I really love! I’m a sucker for how big, and full on and energetic they all are, to the point where it’s kind of ridiculous.
Do ya’ is also a favourite – just as much so as “Shine a little love.” I love it so much, in fact, that’s it’s my mobile phone ringtone!
I guess I love them both because they are such over the top love songs. When you’re in love, you feel like dancing around like an idiot and singing about it.
The lead dude in ELO is Jeff Lynne, a man who has produced and collaborated with some of my favourite musicians – Tom Petty, George Harrison and Del Shannon. Other famous folks he’s worked with (and who I admire, but who I can’t say are my favs) are Brian Wilson, Roy Orbison and Bob Dylan. He was also a member of the super group “The Travellling Wilburys” which included Harrison, Petty, Dylan and Orbison.
ELO also were behind the Xanadu soundtrack – yes – “Xanadu” is there song. The movie is worth watching just to see their songs being danced to by Gene Kelly himself.
My favourite is “All over the world”, which you can see crazy Punk/sci-fi characters dancing around Kelly, and Olivia, in the most outrageous and stupid costumes and dance moves!
They may be a bit too over the top for you, but I love how cheesy they are, without going into Abba territory. Their songs just scream happiness to me, and hey, who doesn’t need a little extra of that in their day?
Do you love, or hate ELO? Let me know!
